  • Winter Dust – Existence (2011)
    By on August 1st, 2011 | 114 Comments114 Comments Comments

    genre: Post-Rock/Piano Rock
    country: Italy

Winter Dust is a band from Padova, Italy. This was sent to me ages ago but I just got around to listening to it. It’s a lot different from what I normally post but it was so interesting that I decided to post it. It’s a mix of post-rock, pop, and ambient rock. There are some screamy parts though! Very piano driven. Fans of Moving Mountains and bands like that would probably love this.

    genre: Screamo/Math-Rock/Emo/Post-Rock/Fuck Yes
    country: USA

Duck. Little Brother, Duck! is a post-music band from Portland, OR. They’re insanely spastic about keeping time signatures and styles but it makes for one of the most interesting bands to listen to ever. A lot of math-rock, screamo, emo, and post-rock put together but in a unique manner. In addition to that the musicianship of each member in the band is so impressive. They recently went on tour and this is the demo that accompanied them. With three songs 6 minutes + songs this EP is a monster. The amazing thing is that each song holds your attention the entire time. Definitely check this out if you haven’t heard of them and you can also find their full length Survival Is Not A Workout for free download on bandcamp. They will be recording a new album soon so get pumped.

    genre: twinkle-daddies, emo, math-rock
    country: USA
notes: t’is here be Algernon Cadwallader’s new record! It’s really sweet. A bit different in sound and tonality from the previous material, but the songwriting and style pretty much stays the same – i love it, to me it sounds a bit like they further developed upon the Cap’n Jazz influences. If you dig anything twinkly, already know the band or like anything CYLS has ever put out, you should love this.

    genre: Math-Pop/Indie-Pop/Twinkle
    country: USA
notes: I wanted to post something a bit different. The Speed of Sound in Seawater is a math-pop band from California. They just released a new album entitled Underwater Tell Each Other Secrets. The music is insanely beautiful and there’s a lot going on. Smooth vocals, noodely guitar, and jazzy bass/drums. The sound is pretty consistent throughout all the EPs but unlike some other bands that’s a good fucking thing. They also have two other EPs entitled Red Version and Blue Version that are included in this download. Fans of Algernon Cadwallader, American Football, Toe, and Malegoat. Do it now. Support them if you can though. They’re DIY as fuck. ps. Happy Mothers Day!

Snowing - I Could Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted album cover

    genre: Indie/Emo
    country: USA
notes: Hello there, my name is Nicholai, and this is my first post on SYLO, thanks Fabi, for letting me do this, it’ll be fun. I thought i’d start out by posting Snowing’s recent album, which has yet to come out, it’ll be out on LP and of course on your favorite label for twinkly stuff; Count Your Lucky Stars. The sound is not far from Fuck your emotional bullshit, yet this album seizes me more, and is at points a tad bit heavier. CYLS has put it up, free to download, so grab it at their site.

  • Jubilee – Zwounds Split
By on November 19th, 2010 | No Comments Comments

    genre: Screamo/Math-Rock
    country: USA

Jubilee, also known as Nouveau Riches, and Zwounds were both bands from Fort Worth, Texas. Recently, they decided to have a mega orgy and form Innards. Jubilee was screamo, while Zwounds was more math-rock oriented. This split is really amazing and underrated. Both bands totally don’t get the credit they deserve.

notes: Innards is a newly formed screamo band from Fort Worth, Texas formed from current members of Nouveaux Riches/Jubilee and Zwounds. Innards is unique in that they combine math rock and screamo and have both chaotic and melodic parts. Also they have two singers which makes the band very epic at times. The band recently went on tour and this release is their tour EP. Band definitely ups the skramz.

    notes:

TWO TONGUES, the new band featuring Max Bemis and Coby Linder of Say Anything
along with Chris Conley and David Soloway of Saves The Day, announce a February
    3, 2009 release for their self-titled debut. The thirteen-track self-produced
disc was recorded late last year at Electric Ladybug studios in Northern
    California.

Max Bemis comments on the genesis of the project:
“Chris has been my favorite songwriter since I was 15. Ten years later he is now
is one of my closest friends. The Two Tongues record is really an expression of
the yin and yang; how two “opposite” souls stimulate and battle each other in
any truly loving relationship. Chris inspired me as a mentor, hero and friend,
and I inspired him as someone who truly cherishes his work that he can respect
in his own right. Chris sometimes looks down on himself but is inside a very
strong, almost Buddha-like centered soul; I have that whole Steven Tyler/Jerry
Lewis extrovert personality onstage but I’m a totally neurotic, restless soul
inside. We as two people, therefore, express two sides of a coin. Making the
record, and it being the first band either of us has ever been in outside of Say
    Anything or Saves the Day, was sort of like falling in love for the second time;
you have to look outside of yourself and learn to communicate with and trust
someone who operates in a totally different manner. Ironically, while making
this record I met the girl I am now in love with, so I was experiencing the same
thing in the form of friendship with Chris as I was in getting to know this
female person. So whether you want to look at the record as songs about two
people starting a romantic relationship or this dynamic of how inspiration
operates between two people, that’s your choice. We hope it functions on both
levels. Either way, it’s a dream come true for me, and a true labor of love.”

Chris Conley says of the collaboration:
“Working with Max was a dream come true for me. I have never met another
musician as inspiring and talented. During a dark period in my life, Max’s music
lifted my heart, and for that I am forever in his debt. When he approached me
about doing this side project together, my immediate thought was, “I would do it
with no one else.” So my heart was in it from the moment of inception. The
process of songwriting and recording was exciting and fluid. As it turns out, we
work together quite well! I look forward to our next project together so our
    learning and growing can continue.”
