notes: This band I reeeeally like! And it was a great surprise when Thomas, a dude from Bare Arms, contacted me about putting a link up on the blog…don’t mind if I do! Excellent band, with a great reputation of playing with famous bands such as Daniel Stripped Tiger, La Dispute… Angry and sometimes slow and gentle vocals, with fast pounding tunes make your chest pound while listening. First two songs on this release are probably the best female vocal featuring songs I have ever heard. Oh and by the way, they have the best description on Lastfm…ever!
    “Bare Arms come from Sydney.
They are made of a High School Teacher, a Design Student, a Printing Student and a Personal Assistant/ Vegan Cupcake Baker.
Some of them played in the Thaw and When Chimps Attack
They are a band and act as such”

notes: One more Australian screamo wonder, with both interesting name and interesting tunes. Constantly changing rhythm and shifts in vocals, their release really make you listen through it with one breath so to speak. Sadly they released only this ep (they can also be found on several compilations. I’m not sure about the year of the release, but the band itself existed from 2003 to 2005. Enjoy!

  • Contour – Pre-Production EP (2009)

    genre: Screamo, Progressive, Hardcore
    country: Australia
notes: So Douglas (vocalist in Contour) contacted me to check them out and post if I like them. And I must say, I’m quite happy I found out about these young lads, since they play some very interesting and unique tunes. A blend of a few styles, they offer very heavy, sometimes mid tempo, sometimes fast, sometimes slow and gentle tunes, with kinda mathcore stop-start rhythms and very interesting singing/screaming. The mood of songs shifts also, from sort of depressive and lost, to kinda just downright angry. This all probably sounds thrown together and stupidly written, but this band really offers a bunch of enjoyment in their tunes and you really can’t pinpoint them to one specific genre. Definitely check them out! Also visit their myspaz http://www.myspace.com/contourmelbourne

    genre: Screamo
    country: Australia
notes: I’d like to open the Australian screamo days with this amazing band. Formed in 2006, Eucalypt enjoyed a place from which it was compared to bands such as La Quiete and Raein, although it had a style of it’s own, particularly the guitar playing with no distortion. Amazing songs pumped up with fast paced rhythm and unbelievable vocals, Eucalypt really deserves it’s spot high and proud. Kepela!!!

    Download

    bitrate: 320 kBit/s
    genre: Emo
    country: Sweden
notes: Sore Eyelids features members from the legendary Suis La Lune. Need I say more? I do? Well, to be honest, these tunes are the most beautiful tunes I have heard since hearing the epic emo band The Pine. A soothing voice puts you into a calm place surrounded by gentle chaos created by stunningly played instruments. This masterpiece will be released on tape, so keep your eyes on it and if you can, get it, this project deserves both support and attention.

  • Skreams from the down under!
    By on November 26th, 2009 | 29 Comments29 Comments Comments

During my posts regarding Itai Itai records, I found it quite interesting to have those (let’s say) “theme” days for uploads. But at the same time, I find it troublesome to think up a good theme unless it hit me directly in the head…and it did actually! Two amazing bands contacted me to put their releases on SYLO and to make things interesting (enter the point of this seemingly nonsense post) both bands come from Australia. So the next to days will be dedicated to Australian screamo. I’ll post those two bands, plus two more bands also coming from the world’s smallest continent.
So hope you enjoy the skreams from the down under….But before that, one very, very, VERY amazing upload…..

notes: So the dude from Lobo-guará asked us to post his EP……and damn am I glad he did! 4 songs, six minutes of beautiful acoustic guitar sound and raw screaming make this EP really worth checking out. I hope this won’t be the only released material, this stuff is precious!

    bitrate: 320 kBit/s
    genre: Hardcore, Screamo
    country: Hungary
notes: 2005 release by Choose Your Path brought us quite faster tones with not so much of a dark feeling hovering inside them. But that doesn’t mean that this is happy happy joy music, they still kept the heaviness of their former releases. Enjoy!
